Just a few pics that Jill Ferguson sent a long of a guitar that Steve and I are building collaboratively. Steve has done the top and back plate and the neck, and I am doing the assembly, setup, fretting, etc. Tony is finishing this one. It is an All American wood guitar, walnut trimmed in maple. Even the fingerboard and bridge will be from the good ole USA. Texas ebony. As hard and heavy as anything you will see in the tropisc. ![]() ![]() ![]() The rosette is walnut burl with abalone rings. Thanks guys 'preciate those kind words. BTW, I might add that I am impressed with all of your avatars. Lance, yours is most especially fitting for a host and Russell, your "morning after" view of the guitar is artsey. Hesh and Ron, I am still trying to figure out the significance but I like em. |

Ah, I did not know that. I do some summertime building (especailly glueup) in the bathroom, as does my brother. Very small room, very easy to control humidity. |

Thanks again all Russell, that is a seductive picture. If I shipped you a guitar would she take a picture of it? Don...no burst, unless the lack of humidity gets to it. where is my brother? he's the word smith, he needs to chime in here. |

Let me start by saying I don't like walnut. I can't remember ever having seen a walnut guitar I liked. But WOW! That is an amazing instrument, just beautiful! Those bindings were the perfect choice even though it'd have been easy to think it might be too much figure for one guitar. They fit the look perfectly. Well done Mr. Kinnaird and Mr. Kinnaird! |

Wow Steve & John, that guitar is an eye popper. I see something a little different going on in the top with the next attachment, do you care to elaborate? |

There really is Texas Ebony and I have some. It is kind of a dark chocolate brown and it is dense as Africean Ebony easily. Here is a terrible picture ![]() The bottom slab is Texas Ebony and the top slab is Desert Ironwood, also very hard and a good candidate for the fingerboard. The Ebony I have is a little darker than that pictured and we are going to use that. John, The fingerboard extension is still bolted down but we are going to use four small bolts holding down two ebony strips that glue to the underside of the fingerboard. I think this is a tidier application that one big mortise and tenon. Thanks again for all the kind comments John |
